This major infrastructure project is part of Vietnam’s vision to modernize transport and promote economic connectivity across its 20 provinces and cities.

Plans for Building a High-Speed Railway to Span Vietnam’s North and South

The country’s Politburo and Party Central Committee have given strong support to this dual-track line, which is set to bridge the north and south of Vietnam. Designed to include 23 passenger stations and five freight hubs, the 1,435mm-gauge line will support both travel and freight services, creating new opportunities for growth.

During a recent meeting, Nguyen Ngoc Canh, vice chairman of Vietnam’s State Capital Management Committee, expressed optimism about working closely with CSCEC on significant projects like this. He emphasized the critical role this railway would play in Vietnam’s future, highlighting its potential to boost Vietnam’s international standing and infrastructure.

“This railway project holds immense importance for Vietnam’s development, enhancing the nation’s foundation in the modern world,” Canh noted, underscoring the need for dedicated efforts from ministries and agencies. Vietnam’s leadership aims to push forward decisively, making this ambitious vision a reality.

Potential Impacts of Building a High-Speed Railway in Vietnam’s Economy

The general director of CSCEC’s international project management division reaffirmed the company’s extensive history in Vietnam and their readiness to contribute to high-priority projects. He stated that CSCEC views this railway as a continuation of its strong cooperation with Vietnam, seeking to deepen its involvement in Vietnam’s development goals.

Both Vietnam and China have expressed a mutual interest in enhancing their “hard” infrastructure, such as railways and roads, as well as improving “soft” connections, including policy alignment and streamlined customs processes. This partnership aims to facilitate smoother trade and strengthen regional ties.

This ambitious project, which proposes building a high-speed railway, is anticipated to have wide-reaching impacts on Vietnam’s economy, making transportation more efficient and accessible. By collaborating with China on such a large-scale development, Vietnam aims to set a strong foundation for sustained growth and connectivity.
