VIA Rail Employees Approve New Contract Ensuring Stability

VIA Rail has secured labor peace until 2027 after workers ratified a new contract that ensures wage increases, benefit improvements, and enhanced pensions for thousands of employees across Canada. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The deal, effective from January 2025 through December 2027, includes a 3% annual wage hike and a fully matched pension program. Employees will also benefit from front-loaded sick days, payout options, and expanded health coverage.

Union leaders emphasized the significance of the contract. “This agreement secures meaningful improvements and protects essential roles for our members across Canada,” noted Unifor President Lana Payne. The union fought for benefits that strengthen jobs and future stability.
Council 4000 represents about 1,800 employees in station services, administration, maintenance, and onboard operations. Local 100 covers nearly 700 skilled workers, including mechanics, electricians, and technicians critical to operational reliability.
