Vande Bharat Sleeper train praised by President Murmu in speech

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train running between Kamakhya in Assam and Howrah in West Bengal was mentioned by President Droupadi Murmu in her address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, as reported by ET Infra. She called the new-generation service a significant achievement for Indian Railways.

Murmu also said the Railways—serving the poor and the middle-class population—is close to achieving 100 per cent electrification, according to the text of the address published by the Press Information Bureau. She described the near-completion of electrification as one of the system’s major milestones.

She also referred to direct rail connectivity between Delhi and Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, marked by the flagging off of the Rajdhani Express. Murmu said that when the train reached Aizawl for the first time, the happiness and enthusiasm shown by local residents filled the entire country with joy and pride.
She pointed to what she described as landmark infrastructure achievements, citing the Chenab Bridge as the world’s highest arch bridge and also mentioning the Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu. She framed these projects as part of India’s record-setting progress in the infrastructure sector.
Murmu also spoke about the wider rollout of Vande Bharat trains, saying a nationwide network of more than 150 services is now operating across the country—from Jammu and Kashmir to Kerala.
