Vande Bharat sleeper train hits 180 km/h, setting new India record
12.11.2025
The Vande Bharat sleeper train hit 180 km/h on the Rohalkhurd–Indragarh–Kota stretch, and engineers logged loaded and empty trials to validate safety, stability, and passenger comfort under high-speed conditions.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

How the Vande Bharat sleeper train cleared critical tests?
RDSO Lucknow tested a 16-coach rake between November 2 and 17 on a 100-km corridor; ICF Chennai, Medha Servo Drives, and Faiveley India joined the campaign. Earlier, teams ran the first rake during December 2024–January 2025.

Engineers pushed the train to 180 km/h with a 908-ton configuration and then repeated runs with an 800-ton empty rake. They compared handling, braking, and heat build-up because real-world operations swing between both load states.
The program covered oscillation tests and a long confirmatory run (LCR). Results showed stable ride dynamics, predictable braking, and acceptable noise—so, frankly, the metrics looked ready for certification work that follows.
Why the Vande Bharat sleeper train matters for India’s rail push?
Design updates—advanced suspension, a quieter aerodynamic shell, and modified bogies—reduced vibration and wheel-rail wear. That means lower maintenance exposure over time and a smoother ride; commuters will notice the difference at speed.
The trials advance Mission Raftar and Make in India in practical terms. As one test engineer put it, “we needed to see how it behaves at 180—consistently.” The sleeper model now offers credible long-distance options and domestic supply depth.
Next steps include calibration for route classes, driver training, and tighter telemetry for predictive maintenance. Officials expect a staged rollout once approvals land, because the data supports faster, cleaner trips on priority corridors.
