UTA also outlined several 2025 milestones in an update posted to its UTA Digital Newsroom. One was the March opening of the South Jordan Downtown Station on the TRAX Red Line. The station was built to accommodate population growth and to serve as a direct access point for the Ballpark at America First Square, a Minor League Baseball stadium that opened in April 2025.

The agency said it also purchased 20 new Stadler TRAX light-rail cars. The vehicles are being manufactured in Utah and are expected to include accessible, level boarding; Railway Supply has also covered the order.

Network overview: TRAX, FrontRunner and the S-Line

UTA’s TRAX light-rail network runs on three lines spanning 42.5 miles. The FrontRunner operates along an 83-mile corridor between Ogden and Provo. The S-Line covers 2 miles, linking the Sugar House neighborhood in Salt Lake County with South Salt Lake City.

What’s next for the S-Line extension?

Looking ahead, UTA said it will begin construction in 2026 on an S-Line extension, with completion slated for 2027.
