UP derailment near Dunsmuir keeps Coast Starlight disrupted

Amtrak’s Coast Starlight service remains disrupted after a UP derailment near Dunsmuir on Sunday, March 1, at Cantara Loop, as reported by Trains.com. Cleanup is continuing.

A local TV report said about 19 cars derailed Sunday evening. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, March 3, Union Pacific told the broadcaster that no hazardous materials were involved. The railroad also said cleanup was continuing. Separately, Siskiyou News said there were no injuries and published photos showing overturned grain hopper cars, as Siskiyou News notes.
Coast Starlight operations disrupted since Sunday evening
At the same time, the disruption has been in place since Sunday evening because the route remains closed. The northbound and southbound Coast Starlight trains that departed that day were turned at Sacramento, Calif., and Klamath Falls, Ore., respectively. On Monday, both trains were canceled in their entirety.
