Seventeen locomotives of a Union Pacific train derailed on Monday afternoon in Waller County, Texas, near the towns of Prairie View and Waller.

The Sheriff’s Office of Waller County verified that no one was injured.
Authorities announced the derailment of the Union Pacific train at approximately 6:30 p.m. Central Time. Photographs from the scene revealed several flipped railcars that carried gravel.
U.S. 290 was going to be closed for a long time along James Muse Parkway and Farm Road 362.
Union Pacific train derailment occurred on Eureka Subdivision
The derailment happened on Union Pacific’s Eureka Subdivision, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Houston.
The Waller County Sheriff’s Office and other emergency services responded to the incident on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Authorities have not released additional details about the cause or recovery operations.
Union Pacific has not issued a public statement about when the track will reopen.
