The handover event was attended by representatives from Ukraine and France. Among them were Deputy Minister Maryna Denysiuk and the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Maksym Kozytskyi. French Presidential Representative Pierre Heilbronn, who supports the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure, was also present.

Key Role of the Project for Ukrzaliznytsia

The head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, emphasized the importance of international cooperation. After losing the Azovstal plant, Ukraine has been left without a domestic rail producer. Supplies from France will help fill the deficit and continue the restoration of the railway infrastructure.

The first batch of rails will be used to repair tracks on the Lviv–Dnipro routes. Work will begin in March and conclude by April. The entire project is funded with the support of the governments of Ukraine and France.

Delivery Plans and Costs

The total volume of rails will allow for the construction and repair of approximately 145 kilometers of tracks. Key routes include Kyiv–Lviv, Kyiv–Kharkiv, and connections to the EU border.

The price of the first batch was €1,495 per ton, with a maximum contract price of €1,980 per ton. The pricing formula accounts for the cost of raw materials and energy resources.

Joint Efforts for Ukraine’s Restoration

Deputy Minister Maryna Denysiuk highlighted the importance of this project for the country’s recovery. She stated that the rails will ensure safe train operations, regional logistics, and infrastructure modernization.

The ministry continues working with donors to attract additional aid. Projects like this strengthen Ukraine’s collaboration with other nations, fostering the development of critical infrastructure.

Partnership with France remains a vital step in enhancing Ukraine’s transport network. The rail deliveries are expected to be completed by autumn 2025.
