Ukraine will purchase 100 passenger cars

Ukrzaliznytsia announced the procedure for negotiations on the purchase of 100 passenger cars and the implementation of the corresponding budget program for the renewal of passenger rolling stock.
Ukraine’s railways received a budget of UAH 4 billion (EUR 122.4 million), most of which in the amount of UAH 3 billion (EUR 91.8 million) will be allocated to renew the company’s passenger train fleet, reports railway magazine Railway Supply referring to UZ.
According to acting Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Railways Ivan Yurik, the meeting of the tender committee took place on June 14, and the intention to sign an agreement with the Kryukovsky Railcar Building Plant (KVBZ) was announced at a press conference. ProZorro, the government’s online public procurement platform, has successfully completed all qualification procedures.

If the other participants do not appeal, the agreement will be signed shortly. Under the terms of the contract, the first batch of passenger cars will be delivered by the end of the year and will immediately be put into commercial operation.
The rest of the cars will be shipped within 12 months, and by 2022 the entire new rolling stock will be in operation.
In February, Ukrzaliznytsia announced a tender for the purchase of 100 railcars and invited eight leading manufacturers from around the world to participate. However, only one of them was able to meet the technical requirements and the delivery time within 12 months. Therefore, the tender procedure did not take place.

For the most effective use of public funds, the company received appropriate expert opinions and, after analysis, entered into a negotiation procedure. This is provided for by the public procurement law.
To renew the train fleet and increase localization, Ukrzaliznytsia recently signed an agreement with Stadler, according to which Swiss manufacturer will localize train production in Ukraine if it wins future tenders.
