28.05.2024
On May 26, 2024, two new intercity railways were put into operation in the southern Chinese economic region of the Greater Bay Area, which includes Hong Kong, Macau, and nine cities in Guangdong Province: Guangzhou — Foshan and Foshan — Dongguan, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Designed for a maximum speed of 200 km/h, these lines have become an important part of the region’s transportation infrastructure.

Connected to two existing railways, the new lines form a 258 km mainline that links five key cities in Guangdong Province: Huizhou, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing.
This east-west route has become the longest intercity railway in the Greater Bay Area, with 39 stations.
Regular trains stop at all stations, while high-speed trains make stops at only 14 of them.
Additionally, seven stations offer transfers to metro lines and other railway directions, significantly facilitating passenger transfers.
The average interval between trains is 26 minutes, ensuring high frequency and convenience for passengers.
Tickets can be purchased in advance through the 12306 online platform or by paying the fare before boarding the train with a unified electronic transport card.
The new intercity mainline has significantly reduced travel time between the key cities in the region.
Now, the minimum travel time from Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, to Dongguan or Foshan is about 30 minutes, and to Zhaoqing or Huizhou, approximately one hour.
This project is an important step in implementing the plan aimed at reducing travel time between cities in the Greater Bay Area to one hour.
Improved transportation accessibility contributes to the region’s economic development, increases population mobility, and enhances the quality of life for residents.
The emergence of new intercity railways underscores China’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and improving the efficiency of its transportation system.
Reduced travel time between cities strengthens economic ties and promotes tourism, which in turn positively impacts the overall well-being of the region.
