Trials of an intelligent safety system for tram cars are underway in Belgium
13.05.2024
De Lijn, operating in the Flemish region, along with the Spanish company CAF and Belgian developers of unmanned systems, OTIV, are conducting tests on the extensive Kusttram tram line, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The trials are taking place on a unique 67 km line, crossing various zones, from busy urban areas to tranquil resort spots.
HYDBOX – a portable case for cleaning brake hydraulic blocks and batteries of railway transport
This allows testing the tram safety system under different conditions.
To detect potential hazards near tram cars, sensors and an artificial intelligence-based data processing system are utilized.
This system analyzes the behavior of pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and cars in real-time, predicting possible dangerous situations and providing recommendations to drivers.
Revolutionary Solution for Tram and Metro Brake Systems: TechHydraulic Platform
The project commenced in the summer of 2023, with the first phase of trials aimed at evaluating system responsiveness and the software’s ability to prompt driver reaction to danger by autumn 2024.
During this phase, data is collected only from sensors without feedback to drivers.
Subsequent stages aim to assess the feasibility of providing real-time information to drivers and even automatically stopping tram cars in case of danger.
The possibility of conducting similar trials in other cities like Ghent and Antwerp is also being considered.
This project represents not only a significant step in public transport safety but also showcases the integration of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence into everyday life.
