Tri-Rail transported over 4.4 million people in 2024, showing steady growth in demand for South Florida’s commuter rail service. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Tri-Rail ridership in 2024 nears record levels
The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) reported that Tri-Rail’s total ridership reached 4.4 million in 2024. This figure came close to the 2019 pre-pandemic record of 4.495 million passengers.

In the first quarter of 2025, ridership increased by 2% compared to the same period in 2024. On weekdays, Tri-Rail carried an average of 15,000 passengers, and on peak days, up to 16,000.
Tri-Rail boosts efficiency and expands options
Key hubs include stations at Miami and Fort Lauderdale international airports, as well as the Metrorail Transfer station, where passengers switch to the Miami metro system.
In July 2024, express trains began operating on the line. These trains run with limited stops between MiamiCentral and West Palm Beach, transporting up to 500 passengers daily.
Thanks to this service, Tri-Rail improved travel times during peak hours. Express trains run southbound in the mornings and northbound in the evenings, providing added convenience for commuters.
Tri-Rail infrastructure and schedule overview
The rail line spans 118.3 km with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm. It includes 19 stations and has been operating since 1989.
During peak hours, Tri-Rail trains run every 30 minutes, and every 60 minutes during off-peak hours. This schedule ensures consistent service throughout the day.
