TransPennine Express (TPE) said Malton in Bloom volunteers have already refreshed the site with seasonal planting, colourful borders and pollinator-friendly blooms.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

TPE previously made an initial £5,000 donation last year, and the latest contribution will support new planting schemes and wildlife habitats. The work is aimed at bees, butterflies and other key species as the station’s green spaces continue to develop.

The money comes from TPE’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund, and Malton Town Council has also referenced the award to Malton in Bloom on its website in a council news update: Malton Town Council news.

What the funding will support at Malton station?

TPE said the donation will let Malton in Bloom add to existing planting and introduce habitats designed to help pollinators thrive. Volunteers have transformed the station through community-led gardening, and this next round of work is intended to build on that progress.

Customer and Community Improvement Fund focus

TPE said its Customer and Community Improvement Fund supports projects focused on sustainability, community connection and accessibility. The Malton station biodiversity project is one example of how station spaces can be improved through community involvement, as outlined in the operator’s TransPennine Express Media Centre update.

Andrew Watkins, Community and Development Manager at TransPennine Express, said: “We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Malton in Bloom and support their dedication to improving the local environment. At TPE, we’re committed to building a more sustainable railway, and projects like this showcase what can be achieved when communities and transport services work together.”

Gail Cook, Clerk at Malton Town Council, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to TransPennine Express for their continued support. This funding will enable Malton in Bloom to extend their fantastic work and ensure that Malton station and our town continue to flourish with vibrant displays and biodiversity that everyone can enjoy.”
