16.07.2025
Vancouver has introduced the first Train Mark V on the SkyTrain light metro network, marking a major milestone in the city’s transportation modernization. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The new model consists of five cars and accommodates 672 passengers, which is 25% more than the Mark III trains operating since 2016. Increased capacity reduces congestion during peak hours.

Train Mark V: Features and Advantages
The train offers an extended length and optimized seating configuration. Its interior design is modernized with improved HVAC systems and large screens displaying station and route information.

Automated technology ensures precise control and lowers operational costs, making SkyTrain more reliable and safer for daily commuters. These improvements significantly enhance passenger experience across the network.
Train Mark V and Delivery Plans
Alstom designed, manufactured, and tested the trains at Canadian facilities. In 2020, TransLink ordered 41 units for $527 million, later adding six more in May 2024 to meet growing demand.
The first deliveries arrived in 2023, while the full order will be completed by 2029. This upgrade will increase SkyTrain’s capacity and service efficiency in one of Canada’s busiest urban areas.
The launch of Train Mark V sets a new standard for Vancouver’s public transit by combining innovation, sustainability, and superior passenger comfort.
