TMH sent a new batch of modernized subway cars to Sofia

After major repairs and modernization Metrovagonmash (MVM, part of TMH) sent 12 metro cars of 81-717.4 / 714.4 series to the Sofia Metro.

The works are carried out within the first stage of the option to the main contract, the decision on the implementation of which was made in March 2020. At the beginning of 2020, Metrovagonmash delivered 8 metro cars to Sofia after major repairs and modernization. The customer gave a positive assessment of the work done, in connection with which an additional agreement was signed for the renovation of another 40 subway cars.
This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to TMH.
Metrovagonmash, in accordance with its commitments, will repair and modernize only 40 subway cars. The contract will be implemented in three stages: two deliveries of 12 subway cars and a final batch of 16 subway cars. Work on each of the stages will be carried out for 12 months. Four-car trains will be formed from the modernized cars. The modernized fleet is planned to be operated on lines 1 and 2 of the Sofia Metro.

As part of the overhaul and modernization works, defectoscopy of the body frames was carried out, the driver cab was updated, new asynchronous motors were installed, and the weight of the car was reduced. New design, technical and aesthetic solutions have been developed for the interior of the passenger compartment. The appearance of the train has been updated, comfortable seats and handrails with a wear-resistant coating have been installed in the cabins.
The electrical equipment of the cars has been replaced. It will reduce electricity costs. Each car is equipped with smoke and temperature sensors. There is a department for wheelchairs and baby carriages.
A new control panel with an updated information system from several displays has been installed in the driver cab, the information on which is displayed in Bulgarian and English.
The overhaul and modernization will allow to extend the service life of subway cars by 15 years, increase the level of comfort and safety for passengers and drivers, reduce the amount of maintenance and repair work.
Metrovagonmash and Sofia Metro have been cooperating since 1998. The rolling stock fleet of Bulgaria capital metropolitan consists of cars manufactured at a Moscow enterprise, numbering 168 units.
