The new tram-trains from Stadler
21.02.2024
The new tram-trains from Stadler will soon be introduced in Linz, Austria, changing the city’s transportation landscape, as reported by the company “NPO A.T.O.R.,” a leader in comprehensive supply for passenger carriages, electric trains, and socially oriented transport.
Recently, the administration of the Upper Austrian federal state unveiled visualizations of the exterior and interior designs of these innovative vehicles. Production is already underway at Stadler’s factory in Valencia, Spain.
The Belgian “solar park” will supply electricity to the international railway
The new tram-trains will be three-section dual-system vehicles capable of operating on both 750 V DC and 15 kV AC power. They have a capacity of 228 passengers and a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
The interior features 94 seats, multifunctional areas, and a toilet. Initially, 20 of these tram-trains have been ordered, with an option for an additional 50 units.
It is planned that starting from 2026, the new rolling stock will replace the GTW electric trains produced by Stadler between 2001 and 2005. This upgrade promises to improve passenger service quality and make city travel more comfortable and efficient.
The acquisition of the new tram-trains became possible thanks to the participation of the Upper Austrian Transport Association (OÖVV) in the German-Austrian consortium VDV.
In 2022, this consortium placed an order for 246 Citylink tram-trains from Stadler. Establishing a unified standard for trams has reduced their cost by €1 million and lowered maintenance expenses through collective orders.
This initiative stimulates public transport development and contributes to the sustainable development of cities.
