Siemens Mobility introduced the Mireo, their most energy-efficient regional train, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply
Siemens Mobility officially unveiled its regional transportation vehicle on the Mireo platform for the first time during TRAKO 2023 in Gdansk, Poland, on September 19, 2023.

Siemens has dubbed the Mireo as one of the most energy-efficient and standardized electric motor units in the world, specifically in Europe.
The impressive energy efficiency of the Mireo suburban train is achieved through a lightweight welded integrated aluminum shell.
Improved aerodynamics, energy-efficient components, and an intelligent onboard network management system further contribute to reduced resource consumption, lower emissions, and a quieter travel experience.
Since December 2022, the train has been operating on the Lausitz network in Germany, running routes near the Polish border with Frankfurt (Oder) and Cottbus.

It can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and has a traction power of up to 2.6 MW.
With 180 seats (10 in first class and 170 in second class), the train is equipped with internet access, charging stations for electric bicycles, electrical outlets with integrated USB ports for charging, inductive charging at tables with seats facing each other, and a special first-class compartment.
Furthermore, the Mireo provides accessibility features, including an accessible restroom, space for 15 bicycles, a video surveillance system, large information displays for passengers, and windows equipped with special signal-enhancing coatings to improve mobile phone reception during the journey.
According to Siemens, the operation of the Mireo can lead to a significant reduction in electricity consumption, up to 20 percent less compared to vehicles with similar parameters.
Siemens Mobility aims to set a new standard for regional transport on Polish railways, which is a positive development given the rising cost of electricity.
Siemens Mobility has already sold 216 Mireo trains to carriers across Europe.
In September, the company signed a framework agreement to supply 540 units of the Mireo to the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
In addition to standard electric versions of the Mireo, Siemens Mobility is also developing battery and hydrogen-based transport vehicles based on the same platform.
It is expected that these innovative transportation vehicles will debut with passengers in early 2024.
