On the southern coast of Finland, in the port of Hanko, the first electric locomotive purchased by the private freight operator Fenniarail has been delivered. Fenniarail signed a contract for the delivery of this four-axle Vectron electric locomotive with Siemens Mobility in September 2022, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

This electric locomotive, designed to operate on 1524 mm gauge tracks, boasts a power of 6.4 MW and is capable of hauling freight trains weighing over 2000 tons at speeds of up to 200 km/h.

The locomotive has been adapted to Finland’s climate conditions and is equipped with two 180 kW diesel engines, as well as a remote control system for maneuvering on unelectrified sections of track.

After completing testing and personnel training, this electric locomotive will be put into operation at the depot in the city of Kouvola in November 2023.
