Texas railroad boxcar deaths are under investigation in Laredo. Six people were found dead Sunday inside a train boxcar. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

A Union Pacific employee found the bodies in a train yard. The remote site was near the Mexican border, Reuters reported. Also, the report cited Laredo Police Investigator Joe Baeza.

Police said officers and firefighters at the scene confirmed that all six people had died. Still, authorities had not determined a cause of death. In addition, police had not said where the individuals were from.

“Union Pacific is saddened by this incident and is working closely with law enforcement to investigate,” Daryl Bjoraas, a spokesman for Union Pacific, said in a statement to The Post.

Separately, Baeza described the site to NBC News. He called it a rail facility where freight cars are handled.

“Imagine a loading dock at a seaport, but for trains,” Baeza said. “This is where they load and unload a lot of rail cars.”

Earlier train car deaths near the border

The discovery follows earlier instances of deaths in train cars near the US-Mexico border. Those cases have been related to migrants and human smuggling operations. For example, 53 migrants were found in a sweltering tractor-trailer in Texas in 2022.

In addition, authorities found 12 migrants inside a locked train car in 2023. The car was about 20 miles east of Uvalde. Two were dead. It had been sitting in sweltering temperatures.

At the same time, Laredo reached 97 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday. The National Weather Service reported the figure.
