Telangana railway station redevelopment is underway at 40 locations across the state, Union minister for coal and mines G Kishan Reddy said during an inspection of works at Hitec City railway station in Hyderabad. Speaking at the site, he noted that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, upgrading stations has been pushed up the priority list.

Reddy explained that 40 railway stations are being redeveloped with modern facilities in Telangana, a figure also highlighted by South Central Railway. Within this wider programme of Telangana railway station redevelopment, he pointed out that the new Charlapalli railway terminal was recently inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

He also referred to Secunderabad railway station, which is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 720 crore, as previously covered by Railway Supply, while work on the Hyderabad railway station redevelopment is progressing at a cost of Rs 350 crore. The Kacheguda railway station redevelopment plan, he added, is currently awaiting approval.

Hitec City railway station redevelopment details

At Hitec City railway station, where 5,400 passengers and 60 local trains pass through each day, renovation is being carried out in two phases at a cost of Rs 36 crore, according to local coverage in the Times of India. The project includes a redesigned façade and circulating area and an extension of the footbridge from 2 metres to 12 metres.

It also provides for two passenger lifts and two escalators, a new waiting area and modern toilets. In addition, the concourse and waiting halls are being refurbished, and an additional ticketing facility is planned on platform 2. Officials stated that Phase I is expected to be completed by February 2026.

Festival stoppages at Hitec City station

Reddy also drew attention to measures taken at Hitec City station in western Hyderabad during the festive period. During the Dasara and Diwali festivals, 16 mail and express trains bound for Bidar, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Kakinada, Shirdi and Narsapur were given stoppages at Hitec City station to facilitate travel for residents of western Hyderabad. Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, South Central Railway (SCR) general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava and several other SCR officials accompanied the Union minister during the inspection.
