The high-speed trains, ‘Talgo 230’, have commenced their operation between Copenhagen and Hamburg, marking the beginning of an ambitious project for rail links between Denmark and Germany.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

High-speed Talgo 230 trains strengthen cooperation between DSB and Talgo
Talgo, in partnership with Denmark’s national railway company, DSB, launched the new trains, which have been approved for operation on the two countries’ rails. Known by the name EuroCity, the trains are capable of speeds of 200 km/h with an operational speed of 230 km/h.

The Vectron train, developed by Siemens Mobility, delivers propulsion, while its efficiency helps limit carbon dioxide emissions from long-distance transport. The trains are designed by Talgo, taking into consideration sustainability need in the European context, since DSB plans to go completely green by the end of the decade.
Each train has between 9-15 vehicles in the first and second class, with the train having the capacity to carry up to 492 people. The train design with lowered floors throughout the train makes it easy for physically impaired people to board the train.
High-speed trains support Denmark’s sustainable transport strategy
DSB plans to improve the trains by utilizing one end car in push/trailing mode instead of one end car, which will reduce the time taken in the terminal stations.

The partnership began in the year 2020, but was expanded in 2023, with the DSB placing an order for the total of 16 trainsets of the Talgo 230 type. The trains are constructed with special focus on the environment, with 95% of the material being recyclable.
Such trains testify to the strategic focus of Scandinavia on fast, eco-friendly transport solutions. They enable faster travel, greater comfort, and, on the other hand, promote the economic integration of the transport system throughout Europe.
