28.06.2025
Sydney has approved a landmark metro precinct in Parramatta that will place rapid transit and mixed-use development at the heart of the city’s western expansion strategy. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The site above the future Parramatta Metro Station will include four new buildings with 100 residential units, modern office space, retail stores, restaurants, and public areas. A large car park will also support the growing community.

Sydney project to reshape central Parramatta
The precinct will seamlessly connect with metro platforms and nearby transport hubs, such as Parramatta Station, bus lines, and light rail stops along Macquarie and Church Streets. This integrated setup supports Sydney’s commitment to smart, accessible infrastructure.
Two development teams are competing to deliver the Parramatta Integrated Station Development. One team includes Gamuda Engineering, Billbergia, Gamuda Australia, and MTR Corporation (Australia). The other is Lendlease Construction and Lendlease Development.
These firms will be responsible for designing and building not only the metro station but also the structures above and adjacent to it. The final contract is expected to be awarded in 2026.

The Concept State Significant Development Application (SSDA) was released for public feedback. The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure reviewed all submissions before granting approval.
Further SSDAs will be prepared by the chosen developer, providing guidelines and detailed plans for the buildings. Community members will again be invited to offer input during the design process.
The metro precinct marks a turning point for western Sydney. It promises better transport, new housing, and commercial opportunities—all designed to serve a rapidly growing urban population.
