Boosting housing capacity at Sydney Olympic Park

Developers have submitted a new application to expand residential capacity within the Sydney Metro West precinct. The proposal seeks to convert one of three approved buildings from commercial to residential use, adding 191 apartments.

The change would increase the total number of homes in the over-station development to over 500. The two other buildings will retain mixed-use purposes, combining retail, commercial, and upper-level residences.

Sydney Olympic Park metro station and precinct development

Three consortia have been shortlisted to deliver the new metro station and surrounding precinct. These include FCC Construction Australia with Ecove Group, Gamuda Engineering with MTR Corporation (Australia), and John Holland with Freecity Group Holdings.

The contract covers design and construction of the metro station, adjacent buildings, and public spaces. According to Transport for NSW, the project will create a vibrant hub with housing, jobs, dining, and retail options.

Because the metro will offer a 15-minute trip to Hunter Street in Sydney CBD, access will be faster and more convenient. The development also aims to strengthen Sydney’s night-time economy and reduce car dependency.

An Environmental Impact Statement outlining the proposed changes is open for public review until Thursday, 4 September 2025. Community members and stakeholders can submit feedback to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure during the exhibition period.

By integrating high-density housing directly with modern transport infrastructure, Sydney Olympic Park’s renewal supports sustainable urban growth. The collaboration between government, developers, and the public will be crucial to shaping a connected and lively precinct.
