Azerbaijan Upgrades Alat–Osmanli–Astara Line to Expand Connectivity

Tural Abbasli, advisor to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, shared updates at the National Business Development Forum in Baku. He stated that crews are actively upgrading the Alat–Osmanli segment.

At the same time, construction on the Osmanli–Astara stretch continues without delays. The total length of the reconstructed railway amounts to 243 kilometers.

In addition, Abbasli announced that the design phase for the Yevlakh–Barda line, including communication and signaling systems, will be completed by 2027.

The 38-kilometer Yevlakh–Barda and the 47.1-kilometer Yevlakh–Aghdam lines belong to the Karabakh branch of the Baku–Boyuk Kesik route. These upgrades will significantly enhance transport in post-conflict areas.

Azerbaijan Strengthens Logistics Role Across Eurasia

During a forum session on transport infrastructure development, experts presented strategies to increase logistics capacity. Azerbaijan aims to link major routes and attract both public and private investment.

Javid Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport, emphasized the impact of geopolitical shifts on regional transit. He noted that Azerbaijan’s strategic value in international logistics continues to rise.

He highlighted that large-scale reforms and digital innovations are reshaping the sector. The government supports efficient logistics systems to handle growing cargo volumes.

In recent years, the transport sector’s contribution to Azerbaijan’s GDP climbed to 6.5%. Gurbanov added that key highways are under reconstruction to accommodate rising transit demand.

With focused infrastructure development and modernized railway systems, the country reinforces its role in global trade and regional integration.
