Stirling–London rail service adds a bold UK option
02.06.2026
Stirling–London rail service has begun under Lumo, giving passengers a direct West Coast Main Line link between Stirling and London Euston.

As previously covered by Railway Supply, the British rail operator has introduced the route with fares starting at £29.90. Lumo presents the service as an affordable and sustainable option for travel between Scotland and the UK capital, especially for journeys that might otherwise be made by road or air.
Before regular services began, Lumo operated a preview train on 22 May. Community partners, apprentices and guests from along the route took part in the journey, viewed the refurbished trains and arrived in London to a celebratory welcome with traditional Scottish music and entertainment.
Stirling–London rail service brings new stops to Lumo network
According to Lumo’s official launch note, the London Euston to Stirling train serves London Euston, Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe, Preston, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds, Larbert and Stirling. The same route gives customers in Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert direct access to West Coast Main Line services and London, a connectivity point highlighted by Transport Scotland.
Lumo says the service will offer competitive fares on different parts of the corridor. Tickets start at £23.90 between London and Preston, while Preston to Stirling fares start at £14.90.
“Lumo’s new Stirling-to-London route is a very welcome addition to cross-border services, providing wider economic and connectivity benefits for Scotland. The new services will not only boost tourism and hospitality in Stirling and the Forth Valley but will also improve connectivity by giving customers in Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert direct access to West Coast Main Line services and London,” said Graeme Cook, Rail Director at Transport Scotland.
Lumo West Coast Main Line launch supports jobs
The new Lumo West Coast Main Line service is also expected to support employment growth. The operator says the launch will help create about 100 jobs, after the opening of a new operational base in Preston in March.
Those roles include train drivers, instructors and customer experience ambassadors. The Preston base opened in March, and the job creation is linked to the launch of the new cross-border service.
The trains used on the route have six coaches and refurbished interiors. Lumo has also kept its single-class concept, already used on the East Coast Main Line, where the operator connects Glasgow, Falkirk and Edinburgh with North East England and London.
Affordable rail travel between Scotland and London
The launch of the Stirling–London rail service marks another step in Lumo’s plan to expand affordable and sustainable rail travel in the UK. It comes at a time when rail is increasingly being seen as an attractive option for medium- and long-distance journeys across the UK.
With the new direct rail connection, that strategy now includes passengers along the Stirling to London rail service route.
