This contract is part of a larger agreement signed in 2022 for the development and construction of 510 single-deck FLIRT family electric trains for SBB and other operators.

Mercitalia (Italy) acquires 78 locomotives

The initial order comprised 286 trains, including 155 for SBB, 24 for Thurbo, and 107 for RegionAlps.

These new trains are expected to start operating between Switzerland and France every 30 minutes by the end of 2030, providing direct cross-border connectivity.

Stadler’s factory in Bussnang will manufacture both the new and previously ordered trains. They will be certified to operate on the railway networks of both countries.

The trains will be equipped with equipment compatible with existing power supply and signaling systems in Switzerland and France, allowing them to operate on both sides of the border, increasing efficiency.

Additionally, provisions will be made for transporting bicycles, wheelchairs, oversized luggage, and meeting the needs of passengers with limited mobility.

Each train consists of four cars and is equipped with 146 seating places.
