Stadler Valencia will manufacture 504 trams for a consortium of German and Austrian operators as part of the largest contract in the company’s history, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This project is part of the “VDV-Tram-Train” program and involves the delivery of Citylink trams, specially designed for urban and suburban routes.

The initial order includes 246 units valued at approximately €1.7 billion, with an option to increase the supply by up to 258 additional vehicles, potentially raising the contract’s value to €2.3 billion.
The Citylink trams, which will be produced at Stadler’s Valencia plant, will play a key role in the transport systems of Germany and Austria.
They will provide high operational flexibility by combining the benefits of both trams and trains, making them the ideal solution for mixed routes covering both urban and suburban areas.
The manufacturing process involves a full cycle — from design to assembly — showcasing the company’s competence and experience in rolling stock development.
Special attention has been given to vehicle maintenance. Stadler’s Valencia plant will not only manufacture the trams but also be responsible for their technical maintenance, ensuring high quality and longevity of the equipment.
Pilot trains, already tested at this plant, have proven their reliability, and the new series of trams will continue this successful model.
The contract with the consortium of operators from Germany and Austria is considered the largest for Stadler Group.
It emphasizes the importance of this project not only for the company but for the entire European rail industry.
Amid growing demand for environmentally friendly transport, this contract represents one of the largest rail tenders in Europe.
