Stadler US Transforms Into a New Independent Division in North America
03.12.2024
Stadler US has experienced remarkable growth, prompting the Board of Directors to make a significant change. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Starting January 1, 2025, the company’s US operations will separate from its Swiss counterpart, forming a distinct North America division. Martin Ritter, the current CEO, will lead this new division and join Stadler’s group management board.
Stadler US Transforms Into Independent Division Amid Rapid Growth
The US headquarters in Salt Lake City has been pivotal for Stadler since its establishment in 2016. The move followed an order from Trinity Metro in Texas for eight diesel-electric FLIRT trains in 2015.

The facility aligns with the Buy America Act, ensuring at least 60% of federally funded projects’ value is added domestically. The headquarters has since grown to employ over 500 people and began expanding its facilities in October 2024 to accommodate future manufacturing needs.
Over the last two months, Stadler secured notable contracts, including four diesel-powered DMU FLIRT trains for Trinity Metro and up to 80 streetcars for Salt Lake City. With products like GTW, KISS, and hydrogen-powered FLIRT already operating in the US, Stadler’s presence in the North American market continues to solidify.
The Board’s decision aims to bolster Stadler’s success and further cement its position in the American market. Martin Ritter’s leadership has been instrumental, and his promotion reflects his ability to drive growth. Employees’ terms and conditions will remain unchanged despite this organizational shift.
Leadership Drives Stadler US Transformation
Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board, emphasized the importance of this market, applauding Ritter’s leadership and wishing the team continued success. Martin Ritter expressed excitement about the new chapter, attributing the company’s achievements to its dedicated employees and looking forward to expanding Stadler’s North American footprint.
With over 80 years of expertise, Stadler remains committed to sustainable mobility through innovative and durable rail solutions.
The company employs around 14,500 people worldwide and offers a diverse range of products, including high-speed trains, intercity trains, metros, and trams, while leading in rack-and-pinion rail vehicle manufacturing.
This transition marks a pivotal moment in Stadler’s journey to becoming a major player in the global market.
