The company Stadler has unveiled the first double-decker train for long-distance Railjet services. The six-car KISS train was showcased at the factory in St. Margrethen, Switzerland. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

These modern trains are scheduled to operate within Austria by mid-2026. They can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h, significantly reducing travel time.

The interior features 480 passenger seats in first and second class, dining areas, and restrooms. Additionally, there are spaces for bicycles and wheelchairs, ensuring accessibility for all.

The national operator ÖBB signed a framework contract with Stadler for the supply of new trains. In February 2022, a deal worth approximately €3 billionwas signed, covering up to 186 train sets.

Stadler Expands the Railjet Fleet

In the summer of 2023, ÖBB ordered an additional 14 Railjet trainsets and 21 Cityjet trains. These trains will provide comfortable journeys across Austria, enhancing the railway network.

The first Cityjet train was officially presented at the InnoTrans 2024 exhibition. Deliveries of all ordered trains are expected to be completed by the summer of 2027.

Stadler’s Innovations for Passenger Comfort

The manufacturer has implemented cutting-edge technologies to ensure a comfortable long-distance travel experience. The trains feature modern air conditioning systems and ergonomic seats.
