Stadler to Introduce Innovative Trains for Thuringia: Eco-Friendly and Convenient

Stadler Brings Innovation to Thuringia’s Transport Network

After the completion of the tender, DB Regio, a subsidiary of DB, the German railway company, will operate the routes. The contract covers regional routes of the Central Thuringia network, designed for fifteen years of service.

The trains will run from December 2028 until the contract expires at the end of 2043. The route network includes seven directions, connecting Erfurt with various settlements in the region.

Four routes will ensure convenient transport links between the state capital and central Thuringia. Under the contract terms, DB Regio will provide 3.5 milliontrain-kilometers of passenger transport annually.

For these operations, 19 Flirt Akku trains will be purchased, offering a battery-powered range of 80 kilometers. To ensure reliable operation, the infrastructure for charging train batteries will be modernized.

How Stadler Will Reduce Emissions in Thuringia?

Authorities plan to electrify tracks at two stations and upgrade the overhead network at three more. The new fleet will replace diesel trains, reducing CO₂ emissions.

This change will lower environmental pollution levels and reduce noise pollution. Flirt Akku trains will provide a comfortable journey for all passengers, including those with limited mobility.

The train design features low-floor access, making boarding and disembarking easier. Spacious interiors will offer 148 seats, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.

Additionally, multifunctional areas will accommodate wheelchairs, bicycles, and strollers. Passengers will benefit from Wi-Fi, a modern information system, and video surveillance, enhancing safety.
