Stadler to Deliver 36 FLIRT XL Trains for Rhine-Ruhr Network

Stadler will supply 36 FLIRT XL battery-electric trains for the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn, cementing its market position in the German railroad market since the project features strategically for transport development at a local level.

Stadler Expands Its Operation in Germany
The firm secured a deal with the local transport association Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR), which bought the trainsets especially for VIAS Rail GmbH. The operator, for their part, will put the fleet into service and maintenance for a period of 15 years, whose starting time is 2029.

Each of the three-car FLIRT XL trains is 70 meters long with 180 seats. There are special areas for bicycles, people with limited mobility, and families with prams provided for the designers. The trains have received the classic green-and-white Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn coating, which highlights their association with the local network.
