Stadler Strengthens Its Presence in the Baltic Market
In 2023, LTG Link and the Swiss manufacturer Stadler contracted a €226.5 million ($240 million) deal to deliver 15 trains, including nine electrified trains and six dual-mode battery trains. This contract includes the delivery of spare parts up until 2037.

The first train has already arrived in Vilnius, where preparation for the static tests has started. After the certification tests conducted under the supervision of the Lithuanian authorities, the trains will become operational in 2026.
Stadler FLIRT: Comfort, Efficiency, and Sustainabilit
The Stadler FLIRT trains will operate on the Vilnius–Šiauliai–Klaipėda route at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The dual-mode trains will operate on the partly electrified routes: Kaunas–Šiauliai and Vilnius.
All the trains have a bistro area and a dedicated area to park up to 30 bicycles. This can also function as additional seating during winter months. Engineers have improved the sound insulation and installed carpeting in the trains.
The use of the trains will lessen Lithuania’s dependency on imported fossil fuels. By the year 2026, 28% of Lithuania’s railway infrastructure will be electrified. This means that 731 km of the railway network will become electricity-powered.
According to experts, LTG Link’s modernization process fits the transport decarbonization plan in the EU. Through the purchase of the latest generation rolling stock, Lithuania has been positioning itself as a leader in sustainable mobility.
