Stadler equips track machines in Germany with ETCS
16.01.2023
DB Netz, the operator of the German railway infrastructure (DB), has signed a contract with Stadler for the retrofitting of 80 track and overhead machines with Guardia on-board devices that implement the functions of the European train control system ETCS according to the base version 3.6.0 specification. These machines of the 711.1 and 741.X series are planned to be used on the railway networks of Germany and Switzerland from 2024. Railway Supply magazine writes about this with reference to zdmira.
This is the second contract for Stadler to equip DB rolling stock with Guardia devices. As part of a pilot project, these devices were previously equipped with a high-speed diesel train of the BR 605 series (ICE TD), used by DB as a laboratory for testing new technologies, and two electric locomotives of the BR 185.2 series.
Not just different width, a different philosophy
Stadler entered the signaling market in 2018. The ETCS Guardia on-board units were first approved in Poland and later in several other European countries. They are implemented on rolling stock in Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and the Netherlands.
