New CP hybrid trains in 2026: replacing series 592 and a revised schedule

The new rolling stock for 1,668 mm gauge is intended to replace the series 592 diesel trains built in the 1980s by Spain’s Macosa and Ateinsa (later absorbed by Stadler and Alstom). Series 2700 was initially due to enter service in 2024–2025, but has now been postponed to the second half of 2026; Stadler has discussed the revised schedule, as reported by International Railway Journal. Stadler attributes the delay to unforeseen circumstances, including last year’s floods in Europe.
