Stadler’s EURO9000 locomotive, a 6-axle hybrid, has received operational approval in the Netherlands and Belgium, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Designed for international routes in Europe, it adapts to each country’s specific requirements.

Previously approved for use in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, it is expected to obtain operational licensing in Italy by 2024.

In Kazakhstan, construction has begun on a new railway to China

This recent approval confirms the locomotive’s compliance with Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Equipped with various packages for different countries, including standard train protection systems and the European Train Control System (ETCS), it ensures seamless cross-border operations.

With an output of 9 MW, EURO9000 is the most powerful locomotive on the European market, capable of operating on electrified routes with both alternating (AC) and direct (DC) current.

Its modular design allows the installation of three different drive systems (electric, diesel, and/or battery), enabling it to move on electrified and non-electrified track sections. Diesel engines provide additional power when running under a 3 kV direct current overhead line.

EURO9000 can travel at high speeds on major European corridors with mixed traffic, and its high power allows it to pull longer and heavier trains with a single locomotive.
