Heritage railway reopens after bridge replacement
Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells says it is due to reopen on Saturday. That follows the Broom Lane bridge replacement, a £500,000 project.
The heritage line replaced the bridge between High Rocks and Groombridge in East Sussex. It had become corroded. Meanwhile, the railway said the upgrade means trains can continue to travel safely between Tunbridge Wells and Eridge.
At the same time, only a limited service ran during the bridge installation. Trains ran only between Tunbridge Wells West and High Rocks stations.
Spa Valley Railway seeks support after £500,000 project
Jonnie Pay, general manager, said they were “excited” to resume full operations.
“We want to thank our supporters and volunteers,” he said. “Without them, we would not have been able to complete this project which was vital to ensure the railway can stay open for all to enjoy into the future.”
In addition, Pay said the Spa Valley has two years to pay the remainder of the money owed for the project. Also, he said visitors could help raise the additional money required. They can also donate through the railway’s fundraising page.
Weekend events and all-day travel
Separately, the railway has a number of special events over the weekend. These include unlimited all-day travel.
