Modern diesel locomotives from CRRC Ziyang head to Australia

CRRC Ziyang signed a contract to supply modern mainline diesel locomotives to Australia, featuring innovative traction systems and certified according to international environmental standards. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The new AS50 model is equipped with a 5000-horsepower power plant and AC traction motors. These components work together with an AC–DC–AC converter to ensure stable operation with heavy trains.

CRRC Ziyang engineers developed the medium-speed diesel engine in-house. It offers increased efficiency and fuel economy. The locomotive is adapted to a 1067 mm gauge and fully complies with Australian railway specifications.
Additionally, the AS50 locomotive meets UIC level IIIA environmental regulations. This makes it suitable for use in areas with strict emissions standards.
CRRC Ziyang diesel locomotives expand international presence
CRRC Ziyang has already delivered over 1,200 locomotives to 34 countries worldwide. The contract with Australia strengthens the company’s position in a key market and opens new export opportunities.
AS50 is the first locomotive in Australia with this type of converter to enter commercial operation. Previously, the country used three generations of CRRC diesel locomotives, but this new model offers a higher level of technology.
