This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract was signed with local freight operator PSP Cargo and covers the delivery of two TransMontana electric locomotives along with their maintenance—according to a notice published by Softronic. The locomotives, equipped with the ETCS train control system, will operate on international routes; Railway Gazette also reported on Softrans entering the leasing market.

How Softronic locomotive leasing is structured?

Softronic says the new model allows freight operators to obtain locomotives without capital expenditure and outsource locomotive maintenance. The service is aimed primarily at short- to medium-term hire, where an operator wants to avoid purchasing rolling stock outright.

TransMontana locomotives and ETCS

Six-axle TransMontana electric locomotives rated at 6 MW have been produced at the Craiova plant since 2010. More than 90 units have been built to date, and they are operated by private companies in Romania, Hungary and Sweden. Last year, Softronic also announced a battery-locomotive project—highlighted in a Railway Supply report.

Softrans also provides passenger services and rolling stock maintenance. Its fleet includes three Hyperion EMUs built by Softronic between 2012 and 2019.

Last year, Germany’s Siemens Mobility set up Smart Train Lease to market Mireo Smart trains. Through the leasing company, German operators NEB and RFG received contact-battery EMUs.
