The large-scale modernization began in 2023. Siemens invested €250 million into constructing new buildings, acquiring advanced equipment, and implementing AI-based digital solutions. As a result, the total production area more than doubled—from 47,000 to over 100,000 square meters.

New Technology and Focus on Digitalization

During the upgrade, Siemens integrated laser-guided assembly, robotics, and digital twin technology. These innovations have improved the speed, accuracy, and reliability of manufacturing processes. According to Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter, the company is “transforming heavy metal into heavy AI,” taking German railway engineering to a new level.

Workforce Expansion and Maintenance Facility Upgrade

In addition to increasing output, Siemens is enhancing its on-site maintenance center. By 2026, the facility will be able to handle up to 80 major and emergency locomotive overhauls annually, compared to the current 25. Moreover, the workforce is expected to grow from 2,000 to 2,500 employees by 2028.

The updated plant now consolidates all core functions—business operations, design, manufacturing, and service. Siemens will also relocate its Siemens Mobility headquarters to this site, creating a strategic hub for all railway projects.
