Siemens to Build Up to 70 Vectron Locomotives for Alpha Trains: New Variants and Expanded Service

Siemens Mobility has signed a framework agreement with leading European private leasing company Alpha Trains for the delivery of up to 70 Vectron locomotives, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The agreement includes various modifications, such as multi-system Vectron MS, alternating current Vectron AC, and dual-mode Vectron locomotives. The first phase of the contract involves the delivery of 35 locomotives.

These single-section, four-axle locomotives have a power output of up to 6.4 MW and can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. They will be a significant addition to Alpha Trains’ fleet. Deliveries are set to begin at the end of 2026.
The Vectron MS multi-system locomotives will be operated for the first time in France and on international routes connecting northern and southern Europe.
They will also be used in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and possibly Luxembourg.
Additionally, Alpha Trains and Siemens Mobility have extended their previously signed service contract from 2023.
This extension includes maintenance of the new locomotives in Belgium and France.
