Siemens Mobility is delivering new next-generation passenger trains
25.03.2024
Siemens Mobility, a leading manufacturer of innovative transportation solutions, has commenced delivery of new next-generation passenger trains to the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This initiative aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers and improve the energy efficiency of rail transport.
In Switzerland, the trials of remote locomotive control have been successfully completed
The first next-generation Railjet locomotive train, designed and built at Siemens Mobility’s factory in Vienna, has already been put into service on the Vienna – Feldkirch route.
This nine-car trainset, with seating capacity for up to 532 passengers, offers passengers a wide range of services and amenities, including business class compartments, a restaurant car, and spaces for transporting various types of sports equipment.
One of the key features of the new trains is their high energy efficiency.
Trolley systems, which are 30% lighter compared to the previous model, contribute to reducing the train’s electricity consumption for traction.
Special radio-transparent window glazing increases mobile connectivity for passengers, making train journeys more comfortable and connected.
It is planned that the delivery of these innovative trains will be completed by the autumn of 2028.
This reflects Siemens Mobility’s commitment to continuously improving rail transport and creating a more sustainable and comfortable environment for passengers.
