ScotRail extra Friday night trains across Scotland
29.11.2025
ScotRail extra Friday night trains are being added to the festive timetable to support late-night travel in the run-up to Christmas. The new pre-Christmas timetable changes build on the introduction of electric trains on the Glasgow Central – East Kilbride line, as well as recent adjustments to services in the Edinburgh area.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Extra late-night services and added carriages for the festive season
Alongside these additional late-night services on key routes, some existing trains in the timetable will run with extra carriages. This will provide more seats and extra space on board during one of the busiest periods of the year, making it easier for passengers to travel to Christmas markets, nights out and other festive events.

Pre-Christmas timetable changes and value after peak fare removal
ScotRail stresses that the lead-up to Christmas is always among the busiest times of the year, which is why these ScotRail extra Christmas trains, longer formations and Friday night timetable changes are being introduced to help customers make the most of the festive season. Travelling by rail is presented as one of the best ways to enjoy celebrations, and with the removal of peak fares, passengers can find even better value when travelling with ScotRail during this period.
Service Delivery Director Mark Ilderton underlines that whether customers are heading to Christmas markets, meeting friends for a night out or picking up last-minute gifts, ScotRail aims to get them to and from their plans safely and comfortably with these pre-Christmas late-night services.
