Russian Railways and Belarusian Railways suspended from participation in the activities of the International Union of Railways

The railways of Russia and Belarus are suspended from participation in the activities of the Regional European Assembly and the General Assembly of the International Union of Railways (UIC). It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Rail.insider.
“Since the beginning of the war, one of our areas of work has been the international isolation of Russia and Belarus in the railway sector. Back in early March, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure, we achieved the removal of the railway companies of the occupier and its Belarusian minion from participation in all activities of the Regional European Assembly and the General Assembly of the International Union of Railways (UIC). But the previous decision must be ratified by the general assembly. This week, the UZ delegation again took part in the meetings of the UIC Assembly in order to finally defend the decision to remove the aggressor railways. And although we faced pressure from representatives of China, India, Mongolia, Iran, Armenia and Kazakhstan, the decision on the final suspension was made: 72% of the UIC participants voted in favor,” said Alexander Kamyshin.

According to him, this is an important diplomatic victory, which would not have been possible without the direct assistance of international partners – the railways of Asia, Europe and America. They also reaffirmed their promises to provide their own expertise and assistance to Ukrzaliznytsia in the post-war reconstruction of the infrastructure.
“Therefore, the Russian train went in a known direction, and the Ukrainian Railway continues to move according to the schedule,” Alexander Kamyshin added.
