Increase in Freight Flow Through Ukrainian-Polish Border Crossings by 32%: New Records and Changes in Railway Transportation Structure

Freight transfers through border crossings between Ukraine and Poland have significantly increased since the beginning of 2024, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
In the first seven months of this year, the volume of transferred freight reached 12.743 million tons, marking a 32% increase compared to the same period last year.

These figures were announced at an online meeting between representatives of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” and Polish carriers on August 8.
The highest volume of freight was transported through the Izov-Hrubieszów border crossing, totaling 6.954 million tons, which is a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Freight flow through the Mostyska II-Medika crossing increased by 21%, reaching 3.051 million tons. The Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing also showed significant growth: the freight volume amounted to 2.406 million tons, a 71% increase over the first seven months of last year.
At the Rava-Ruska-Verkhrat border crossing, the freight volume nearly tripled, reaching 331,000 tons.
Among the goods transferred through the Ukrainian-Polish border crossings this year, the largest volumes are:
– Iron and manganese ore — 3.073 million tons;
– Grains — 1.488 million tons;
– Oil products — 1.466 million tons;
– Mineral construction materials — 1.208 million tons;
– Ferrous metals — 919,000 tons.
It is noteworthy that compared to last year, there has been a decrease in the volumes of ferrous metals, grains, non-ferrous ores, and salt.
At the same time, there has been an increase in the volumes of iron and manganese ore, oil products, mineral construction materials, coal, cement, and coke.
It was previously reported that over 11 million tons of cargo were transferred through Ukrainian-Polish crossings in the first half of 2024.
