Regional Day Pass Offers Unlimited Travel Across Chicago

The new Regional Day Pass enables unlimited daily travel across Metra, CTA, and Pace systems and is available exclusively on the latest Ventra app version. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Transit leaders launched the pass on June 20, 2025, aiming to simplify travel, attract more riders, and unify the region’s fare system ahead of the summer rush.

Metra CEO Jim Derwinski emphasized the importance of collaboration in enhancing access, saying the Regional Day Pass promotes efficient mobility throughout the greater Chicago area.

The pass costs $10 for single-zone travel, $13.50 for two zones, and $16 for three zones. Discounted fares are $6, $8, and $9. Weekend pricing is set at $9.50 across all zones.

Regional Day Pass Supports Fare Integration and Mobility

According to RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden, the pass represents an essential step toward a connected, rider-first transit system. She noted that unified fare policies can boost efficiency and convenience.

Although this new pass improves travel options, it comes amid a $771 million budget gap and ongoing calls for structural reform. A funding bill passed the Senate but stalled in the House before adjournment.

Officials designed the Regional Day Pass as a six-month pilot, with hopes for permanent adoption depending on funding and public support. Transit leaders are urging legislative action for broader changes.
