RegioFox DMU Expansion Strengthens Regional Rail Service
16.11.2025
České dráhy pushes ahead with its RegioFox DMU rollout as this year’s final deliveries secure a modern fleet and set the tone for upgrades on non-electrified Czech routes.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

How RegioFox DMU Deliveries Reshape One Czech Region?
For ČD, the final RegioFox DMU in this year’s ten-unit delivery run does more than close a calendar. As reported by Railway Pro, it caps a phase of fleet renewal that now visibly changes the Hradec Králové Region.

The programme still continues as Pesa plans to supply another 33 units by the end of 2026 — a schedule also outlined in a České dráhy press release. That timetable brings the total to 40 modern trains, and ČD expects the last seven sets next year, completing modernisation in the region.
As officials put it, the upgrade feels tangible already. CEO Michal Krapinec notes that the units mark a generational leap in comfort and reliability, with 26 trains offering almost 3,000 barrier-free, air-conditioned seats on non-electrified lines.
In practice, the trains now move into plans on the V2 line between Hradec Králové, Doudleby nad Orlicí and Letohrad. They provide a direct link to Rychnov nad Kněžnou and Solnice, removing the change at Častolovice. On the busiest Hradec Králové – Častolovice stretch, ČD plans to run two-unit formations, a detail that matters for peak-hour reliability.
The same approach already supports express services to Trutnov, Svoboda nad Úpou, Náchod and Broumov. For passengers, this means more consistent rolling stock on routes that many people use daily, even if the changes arrive step by step rather than overnight.
RegioFox DMU Integration Across Czech Regions and Routes
For many commuters, the broader plan becomes clearer when they look at the timetable. Once all units arrive next year, the trains will cover several regional routes, including the following lines: Kolín – Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Stará Paka – Trutnov; Hradec Králové – Letohrad / Rychnov nad Kněžnou – Solnice; Choceň – Týniště nad Orlicí – Náchod – Hronov; Hradec Králové – Meziměstí – Broumov; and Hradec Králové – Trutnov – Svoboda nad Úpou.
In real terms, this rollout forms part of what regional officials frankly describe as a record train replacement programme in the history of the Hradec Králové Region. It links long-planned investments with service on non-electrified lines and shows how regional authorities and ČD gradually align policy, funding and operations.
Meanwhile, the story does not stop at one region. Across the country, ČD ordered 106 RegioFox DMU units, and industry coverage in the International Railway Journal notes that this figure stems from a framework agreement with Pesa. Today, 69 of those trains run in Hradec Králové, South Bohemia, Plzeň, Pardubice, Central Bohemia, Prague and the Vysočina Region.
At the same time, ČD expands operations in Prague and Central Bohemia with eight further units entering service this year. The operator treats this steady rollout as groundwork for more predictable regional rail in future timetables, even if passengers mainly notice it through newer trains on familiar routes.
