Railway transportation between Azerbaijan and Iran increased

Railway transportation between Azerbaijan and Iran increased by 47% in 2023, reaching over 700,000 tons, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Transit freight transportation saw a 57% growth.

On December 23, 2023, transportation authorities of both countries emphasized the importance of completing joint transport projects, including the route through the Astara border crossing.
In October 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed for the construction of a railway connecting Azerbaijan, Iran, Nakhchivan, and Turkey.
Construction also commenced on a bridge and border-customs infrastructure in Agbenda (Azerbaijan) with plans to complete them within a year.
