28.09.2023
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) in the United States has announced 70 projects set to receive $1.4 billion in funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law of the Biden administration, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply

This funding represents the largest amount ever allocated to enhance railroad safety and modernize the rail supply chain through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program, covering 35 states and Washington, D.C., according to the administration.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said, “These projects will make American railroads safer, more reliable, and more resilient, providing significant benefits to dozens of communities with railroads and strengthening supply chains for the entire country.”
Most of the projects will support railroad safety and the freight rail supply chain, with nearly two-thirds of CRISI funding going to rural communities.
The National Railroad Corporation Amtrak is among the organizations set to benefit from the funding, with nearly $200 million directed to four projects in the Northeast Corridor and Gulf Coast states, including $178 million for a Gulf Coast corridor improvement project.
This project involves the development and construction of various railroad tracks, signals, crossings, and stations that will enable twice-daily service between Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans, Louisiana, in partnership with the Southern Rail Commission.
