Queensland has announced 300 new train manufacturing jobs as part of a major hiring initiative tied to the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The workforce mobilisation plan officially kicked off this week, opening expressions of interest for a range of roles at the new Torbanlea production facility.

The program offers around 100 white-collar roles and 200 skilled trade positions, including boilermakers, electricians, mechanics, fabricators, and painters. The staged recruitment will continue throughout 2025, as full-scale production begins in 2026.

New Queensland Train Manufacturing Jobs to Support 2026 Rollout

Set in the Fraser Coast region, the Torbanlea facility will manufacture 65 six-car passenger trains tailored for South East Queensland. The trains will enhance efficiency, reliability, and accessibility across the region’s network.

The Queensland Government awarded the fleet contract to engineering firm Downer. The new trains are expected to begin service by 2032—just in time for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said the hiring effort marks a critical moment for regional employment and advanced manufacturing in Queensland. “We’re unlocking hundreds of skilled careers in Maryborough and beyond,” he stated. “This recruitment plan follows a phased approach to match production milestones.”

Construction at the Torbanlea plant is well underway, with structural elements and roofing already completed. Internal fit-outs are progressing as the facility prepares to scale operations.
