These new recruits will work in Brisbane, Cairns, Toowoomba, Townsville, and Maryborough, filling key technical positions. Their roles include engineering, electrical work, mechanics, and maintenance, ensuring a strong rail infrastructure.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish emphasized the importance of hiring skilled professionals. He stated that they would help Queensland’s transport sector grow and modernize efficiently.

“With major developments like Cross River Rail and the 2032 Olympic Games, workforce expansion is vital,” he said. “These apprentices and graduates will help shape the future of transport in Queensland.”

Queensland Rail CEO Kat Stapleton reaffirmed the company’s dedication to talent development. She highlighted how investing in training programs builds a sustainable and skilled workforce.

“We provide industry-leading apprenticeships and graduate programs that ensure long-term career growth,” she said. “Continuous training allows these recruits to enhance their expertise and contribute significantly.”

Apprentice Sub Station Electrician Lauren Corbett, a mother transitioning careers, expressed excitement about her new role. She believes learning new skills is crucial for personal and professional development.

Apprentice Rail Traction Linesperson Lleyton Taylor shared his reasons for joining the company. He appreciates the variety and stability his new role provides within the rail industry.

“I enjoy the diverse tasks and the opportunity to keep the rail network running efficiently,” he said. “This position offers long-term security and a chance to make a real impact.”
